The Danby Compact Dishwasher: Model DDW621WDB is small in size when compared to a conventional dishwasher, but it cleans just as well as a built-in dishwasher. It measures approximately 20 inches wide, which is slightly wider than some of the other countertop models reviewed here, but you should not have any trouble installing it on your kitchen countertop or under the cabinet.
The DDW621WDB is manufactured by Danby which is one of the biggest home appliance manufacturers in North America. Although family owned and operated, it is a company that is making a name for itself among the larger brands in the home appliance industry.
Danby Compact Dishwasher: Model DDW621WDB Features
Taking a quick glance at this dishwasher’s specifications, it becomes quickly clear that this unit has plenty to offer when compared to the traditional built-in models. The dimensions for this particular model are 19.7 x 21.6 x 17.2 inches and weighs 46 pounds. As noted previously, its width is still compact enough to sit on top of your counter or underneath it.
As with most dishwashing appliances, its interior tub is made of stainless steel and houses a rack assembly that holds up to 6 place settings and a cutlery basket. The exterior door panel is where all the controls are found. It features an electronic display that lets you know where you are in the wash cycle. These cycles include 6 to choose from ranging from Normal, Intensive, Economy, Glass, Rapid, and Soak. You can even choose when you want to use the functions by setting the delay from 2, 4, 6 up to 8 hours.
One of the most comforting features of the DDW621WDB is that it is a pretty quiet unit. The average countertop dishwasher operates at a noise level of 53db, but this particular unit runs at 52db. Now you might be wondering ‘what’s the big deal of 1db between the two”, but if I had to bet a quiet night’s sleep, I’d go with this one.
Who’s It For
This Danby Compact Dishwasher is the perfect fit for college dorms, RV’s, those who are wheel chair bound, the mother-in-law living in your converted garage apartment (Geesh!!!), people who homebrew, or renters who can’t install a built-in dishwasher. If that happens to be you or someone you know, then this dishwasher is a nice alternative because you can install it directly to the sink when you need to wash your dishes and disconnect it when you don’t.
Pricing & Purchase
You could buy the DDW621WDB direct from the manufacturer, but that would run you $330, at Amazon.com sells it for $100 less at about $230 plus shipping and handling.
The DDW621WDB cleans far better than its predecessor, the 4-place setting DDW497W. Also, it is much quieter. It even fits well under most kitchen sink areas with little modification.
This DDW621WDB has the potential to leak around the front door window. This is due to the window being snapped in place. Over time, the expansion and contraction as a result of hot water running over it cause the seal to degrade. Consider applying hi-temp silicone around the outside seams of the door.
The Koldfront PDW60EB is another good choice. It has a number of decent reviews for quality and ease of use.
